NO TIRE LEFT BEHIND

Sell a tire, recycle a tire: that’s the idea behind Bridgestone’s Tires 4ward Recycling Program. Tires 4ward is an initiative working toward ensuring that, for every Bridgestone tire sold in the U.S., one tire no longer in use is given a valuable second life.

ROOTS OF THE TIRE RECYCLING PROGRAM

The Tires 4ward Recycling Program was started on Earth Day 2012, as part of the Bridgestone One Team, One Planet sustainability initiative. Since then, the tire recycling program has been wildly successful, reaching a 100% rate of valuable reuse for all tires received at Bridgestone Retail Operations’ more than 2,200 company-owned stores.

Bridgestone has a long-standing commitment to sustainability that is reflected in our company’s environmental mission “to help ensure a healthy environment for current and future generations.” The One Team, One Planet environmental program was established to further advance our environmental mission and focus our efforts. Under this program framework, Bridgestone leadership and teammates are focused on identifying ways we can change the game by being a leader in sustainable corporate behavior.

Bridgestone is committed to a sustainable future for our partners, products and planet. Our Tires 4ward Tire Recycling Program is one of the newest components of that commitment, and it’s here for you and your community.

WHAT DOES TIRE RECYCLING LOOK LIKE?

Tire recycling is a huge part of ensuring a healthy planet for future generations, and the Tires 4ward program goes even further: Bridgestone offers free spent tire collection and recycling to communities across the U.S. So far, we’ve supported more than 240 cleanups and collected and recycled more than 70,000 tires overall.

The Bridgestone Tires 4ward program also recycles tires collected as part of organized clean-up events of public lands, rivers, streams and lakes across the country. All this help is free, and we undertake this important task for a variety of independent community groups nationwide. One of the groups we work with is the River Network, a Portland, Oregon-based nonprofit that leads a national watershed protection movement including more than 2,000 local, state and regional grassroots organizations dedicated to protecting rivers and watersheds.

Citizens participating in a community clean-up event may request Bridgestone’s help recycling the tires collected as part of that effort by completing this Tires 4ward Tire Recycling Program form. Sign up to add your neighborhood to the list for future stops.

WHAT HAPPES TO RECYCLED TIRES?

A tire that's no longer safe for use doesn't have to go in the trash. It can live a second life! Valuable futures for spent tires include use as material in rubberized asphalt, construction materials, landscaping mulch and as tire-derived fuel for energy. Spent tires, or tires that have reached the end of their useful lives and have been taken out of use, are also molded into consumer products like floor mats, roof mats, stone paving and even as a component in new tires.

Bridgestone accepts passenger car tires, light truck tires and commercial truck and bus tires. Tires should be cleaned and free of any soil or debris. The Bridgestone Tires 4ward Recycling Program will accept any brand of tires — not just our own.

OUR LONG TERM MISSION

Our goal is a waste-free future for our industry and the communities where we operate: no more tires sent to landfills, every spent tire turned into a valuable resource and a healthy environment for current and future generations. Bridgestone aims to be in balance with ecological function.

We want to make our communities a cleaner place to work, live and play. We believe it is our responsibility as one of the world’s largest tire and rubber companies to make a positive and lasting impact on the environment, most especially in the communities where we do business and have manufacturing operations.

Tire recycling is a critical step towards this waste-free future, and Tires 4ward Recycling Program has proven a successful program for driving towards a more sustainable future.
